Wednesday Winter Wonderland

Friday, January 14, 2011

Two days ago I stayed home from work because the snow was so terrific. By that I mean it was a bona fide snowstorm! But I also mean that it was terrifically beautiful. The ride I had on Wednesday might be one of the prettiest trail rides ever for me. And it almost didn't happen! I was at home, unable to get my car down our short, flat driveway because of the snow. But do you know who came and picked me up in his truck so I could ride? You guessed it--Bill! Here is a snapshot of all the ice in my brumby's fuzzy coat when I retrieved her from the pasture.

When I brought her up to the barn, she drank a bucket of water. In the pasture the horses drink from a brook. Brrr!

Have you ever wondered what a pig looks like when you stir her from a nap on a cold winter day? Here is your answer: a snortling, hay-covered Louise, that's what!

Look at the fun things my new camera can do !!! I could make an entirely brumby-related coloring book!

So, as I said, the real inspiration of the day happened out on the trail. There were giant, soft clumps of snow everywhere. The forest was also verrrrry quiet. It was so magical. It was like being on planet Crazy Wonderful. For a video clip of this awesome planet, click here. You must!

Our ride was slow and quiet through the trail and then back down the road.

That is Bill on Jodie. She is a great horse. No trouble at all from her, and she had just been plucked from the Big Pasture less than a week ago!

I hope you are all having a great January. This weekend I have a super birthday event planned for my husband, doing something he loves, which he doesn't know about yet! It is a BIG SECRET! A big, totally fabulous and adventuresome secret. I won't be riding this weekend, but I will be taking pictures and post some of them next time!

Happy Winter Wonderland to all! I'll be back in a few days!

Playing with all the settings and features on a new camera is so much fun! Loved the coloring book idea :)

Magical is the very best word to describe riding in the snow ... the stillness, the peace, the ability to just be in the moment with the horse.

Thanks for sharing all the pictures and video ... it's like we were there with you!

Gorgeous! I'm chuckling because your brumby is outside in the freezing Massachussettes weather with no blanket, and yet down here in Miami we are blanketing our horses when it's 49. Rofl!

Magical...what else can I say. And, thankfully Bill was able to pick you up so you could enjoy it all. Your Brumby is the sweetest one to let you bramble along in all that snowy magic.
Have a great time this weekend! Happy Birthday to Brandon and I can't wait to see the photos and hear all about THE BIG BIRTHDAY SECRET!!!!

You and Bill are such die hards! I don't own any coats and gloves that would keep me warm enough to ride in that.

I love riding in the snow. But unfortunately our trails here are way too hilly for us to safely ride with out risking skiing down the slopes. We try to trailer to flatter trails as much as we can, but even that can be hard when parking is limited and not plowed at all. Love your Brumby

I love trail rides in the snow! We haven't had much snow this winter and I don't have anyone to ride with now, so no trail rides for me :(

Yours looked like so much fun!
