A tree by any other name...

I m not a person who likes to get up early. If I had my way, I'd get up every day around 9. But instead I'm stuck getting up and going to work, and before that I walk the dog. And in spite of the fact that I'd rather still be in bed, some of our morning walks are very special.

Take this cornfield. Sometimes there are geese in it. Sometimes turkeys are straggling across it. Getty loves sniffing in it. This year I am going to document this field as the corn grows. Before you know it, the corn will be peeping up from the soil.

This particular morning was  particularly good for tree lessons. Here is a white pine.

And here is...is....a Christmas tree! My tree books are in my saddle bag over at Bill's so I do not know what this one is. I am a floundering tree student!

While learning trees we passed these nice little mares. They are not always out where I can see them. One of them is named Marissa which cracks me up. The family that owns them also has a pony named Crystal. Which also cracks me up.

I don't know the name of this tree, but I think it does look splendid against a blueberry sky!

I am not a morning person either. Now that I am retired, I get up between 8-9 a.m. But I also stay up late, so that could have something to do with sleeping in!
Love the tree with the blue sky!!

With your guide books and constant studying, you'll be a pro soon! I've also found taking pictures help, especially if the books aren't handy. I began cataloging my slides as a way to memorize trees--flowers, leaves, bark close-ups etc. Now I need a more horseback friendly camera, rather than my big old SLR!

Marissa and Crystal - bff! I pictured them texting each other even though they're grazing ten feet apart. ;)

I drag out of bed for the early morning dog walks, but once we get going it's always a nice start to the day.
