Living on Island Time

Monday, June 4, 2012

Look, it's me, the Big Bad Blogger! I've been away for a few days and haven't been blogging because of it. But before I left town, first I had a birthday. Happy Birthday to me.

I was able to get some beautiful rides in with Lilly before we left. Which was really great. I miss her when I am away. Because being on her back is itself like taking a vacation.

But what is a birthday celebration without a little travel? We packed our bags and headed to Martha's Vineyard.

To get to the Vineyard, first you drive to Wood's Hole. Then you park your car and take the ferry shuttle to the ferry. You lounge on the ferry for a while and text Bill a few pictures. Then when you get to the island, you rent a Jeep and start adventuring.

Being near the ocean is grand. I love the salty sea air.

Who doesn't love a change of scenery?

I like to call this picture Still Life with Husband and Pomegranate Martini. Oh yes, I was making to most of the Vineyard. It is easy to get used to island living. We fit in immediately.

Smile for the camera! Drinks before dinner, heaping chocolatey desserts after. It doesn't get much better. Unless of course, Lilly were in a nearby field, waiting to investigate some salty, sandy trails with me....

Looks like we were not the only ones having a stopover on the vineyard! When I got close to this sign to take the picture, Brandon told me to get away! I am married to a bird protector!! I love this!

This is the view from our hotel room in Edgartown. In 1975 Jaws was filmed on Martha's Vineyard and many of the town scenes were filmed in Edgartown. Brandon and I love the movie Jaws. We could reasonably declare that we have seen the movie at least 500 times.

This lighthouse is in Oak Bluffs.

And this charming farm stand was out by Menemsha.

I did see some horses grazing. But not too many. I can only imagine how awesome it must be to have a horse there and go ambling around. I am sure my brumby would love it.Lots of strange sea plants to nibble on.

Here we are trying to recreate the scene in Jaws when Chief Brody find the dead, chomped up girl on the beach.

Hope everyone had a fine weekend. Looks like it back to rain for now. Gross!

Looks like you had a grand time on the island, except for missing your brumby!

You two are so funny! I loved this post. Happy Birthday! You deserve such a fantastic time! I wish Lilly was there with you. I think moving there with horses would be amazing. Or Nantucket.

Brian and I took Sage and Lake and baby Maizie to Martha's Vineyard 13 years ago! I admired a painter/writer of cookbooks named Susan Branch who lived on the island back then. We skulked around her street and looked at her house and I felt like a regular stalker!

We didn't venture out to Menemsha but your photo is just divine. We have decided never to move north, but oh, it is sooo inviting!

You are just adorable with your martini! Divine!!! Who needs blogging when you can have a birthday getaway like that!?!
