I'm Living the Dream!

Have you ever been to a Woolcraft Fair? Me neither, until today! I cannot believe how cute sheep are. I also cannot believe how big certain breeds can actually be! I meant to take my camera to get some good pictures of all of the sheep, but halfway there I realized I had left it at home. So I have no darling sheep or lambs to share. There were also Border Collie trials going on. Now that was awesome! After the fair, when I went to see Lilly, I got a little crazy and put english tack on her. I don't know what I was thinking. Perhaps dragging it out for the photo a few days ago inspired me. I set up some tiny jumps in the ring and Lilly fluttered over them beautifully. Jumping, even over tiny jumps, is ridiculously fun. I also got Lilly to sidepass pretty well...but only after taking my foot out of the stirrup and whacking her with it. It was a good wake-up call, the right signal: after that she sidepassed like a pro. It was as if it finally clicked in her mind what I wanted her to do. Maybe my other taps have been too gentle, too tentative. Here she is snatching more dandelion and grass after we were done. She took a while to munch that down, probably because of that big ole bit in her mouth.

Bill sent me some good snaps of Charlie getting his stitches out yesterday. Those are Jackie's hands deftly working the tiny scissors to get the stitches out. She is able to do it very fast, which is just what was required. Jackie is a nurse and I wonder how many times she has used her skills on the horses!

Look how good Charlie is being!

Here are a few more pictures from our ride yesterday. I put this one in because I am usually not at the head of the pack. Lilly and I are too slow and ambly for that. So this picture might be one in a million.

Here is another hayfield we were in, one where Bill is cultivating his own hay with ancient equipment. That's the tractor he has been using!

Lilly and me in the hay.

Charlie is looking good without his stitches!
You are so lucky, to get to trail ride almost everyday! I wish I could do that! Oh wait, I am unemployed in a week, I probably can do that! Ha!

Your brumby is very photogenic - expressive face! Nice that you're doing some jumps - it's fun for them to do different things.
