Pole Bendin' Brumby

Whooooah! Wait a minute! Wait just one minute!! What on earth is this picture? This photo just might be documenting a once in a lifetime event! Kind of like a comet! Yes, there is my husband sitting in the saddle! Seeing is believing, people. It really happened. Immediately after this picture was taken, he was down off that horse, lickity split. Well, Rome wasn't built in a day.

I went to Bill's for the ring work on Tuesday this week because Wednesday had rain the forecast. When we got there, Bill had set up some poles for some pole bending! The poles don't show up too well in these pictures. But they are there.

Last year we had the poles set up, and we even had some barrels up in the ring.

Here we are scampering around the ring. Last week Lilly was very cranky. This week, she was mellow and sweet.

We practiced all kinds of things such as collection, rocking horse cantering, stopping immediately and even a few rollbacks.

It was GREAT. Do these pictures look like they are all of the same thing? I guess they do a little bit.

Here's Bill doing the pole bending with Ruby. It was really fun to watch them, even though in this picture I am not paying any attention.

I'm not sure what this picture is of. Maybe it was supposed to be a rollback. Lilly is not great at rollbacks. I don't think she gets her back legs underneath her enough. Although, I can't blame her for that.

Here I am urging her to canter to the other end of the ring to practice another stop and roll.

With our spectators looking on. Excuse me, spectator, singular. Ruby does not seem too interested. She may be thinking, I hope I don't have to do that.

Here's Bill and Ruby getting ready for action.

GO, BRUMBY, GO!!!
~~
Next week I am hoping Rosalie, Jackie and Christine will be back ringside! Maybe someone will have a stopwatch so we can see who can polebend the fastest!

Looks like you are having lots of fun! That is so great that your hubby got on Lilly. Maybe he will want a horse of his own someday! Seriously, it can happen, my OH decided he wanted a horse after watching me ride for over a year.

I also wanted to answer your question you asked me about breaking Chance. I am hoping to saddle break Chance summer of 2011. She will be a little over two and as long as she is mature enough mentally, I will go ahead and do it. I really want to saddle break her in the summer, since our weather in the fall and winter is miserable and won't have much time or consistency to do it then. I don't think it will be a problem to break her in the summer though, she is one smart little cookie, and I think she will be ready. All horses are different when it comes to breaking. It just all depends on each horses maturity level and if they aren't ready, then we wait! It'll be a fun adventure, that's for sure!

Oh and I forgot to say that this is the first horse I have broke myself. I have seen it done many times and am very knowledgeable about it, so we will see how it goes when the time comes! I am hoping to not have too many problems, and the way things have been going, I am not anticipating any. But things can change so fast!

Thats a great picture of hubby on the Brumby.

Mine really wants his own horse, but we have to get him a gaited horse as he has a very bad knee.

Posting trot is OUT of the question.

Pole Bending? Star was not a fan, she would not even really turn , just lean real hard as to not hit the poles ;0
