Wish You Were Here!

The best thing about Columbus Day, in my opinion, is getting a three day weekend! Whoooooeeeee! Saturday and Sunday we had sun, and Monday there was MORE SUN! The possibilities are really endless on a sunny day. Here are Jackie and Pokey racing around barrel number two. At barrel number three Pokey decided he wanted to listen to Pokey and not Jackie. He's never an unkind horse, never tries to buck his rider off. He just likes to test his boundaries every once in a while.

Monday Brandon came out with me to look for mushrooms as Lilly and I ambled along. Lilly was so slow. Brandon was constantly way ahead of us. Her natural speed is something like -5 mph. She does get faster on the way home. It figures. But the truth is, I like her ambling. It's sweet and gentle. I also know she'd move at lightening speed if I really asked her to.

Oh deeeeeeear. My blog has suddenly become X rated! Don't you love these mushrooms? They are stinkhorns (Phallus ravenelii) and prove, in yet another way, how mushrooms are more like animals then plants. Stinkhorns smell terrrrrible. The smell attracts little flies and the flies get spores on their wings, and that way the mushroom travels far and wide in its carrying-on of the species.

Stinkhorns may look like men, but hopefully you will never be with a man that smells like one. YIKES.

Oh! Now that's horrible! This is just a reminder that one of my favorite holidays is coming up!

Hah! I always love your music/photo/story combinations. Aren't those stinkhorns the funniest mushroom ever? I guess those 3-day weekends are a reward for slaving to feed our ponies!

Hmmmm. You definitely ride in the moistest environment I've ever seen. We've got a few mushrooms growing out of dirt behind the barn. The horses won't eat them, but I keep expecting them to at least play soccer with them or something.

I am so glad you got in three perfect sunny day horse time. I keep forgetting to comment about the barrel racing going on there at Bear River. You are brave - I don't think I could do that.
